AMSOIL Synthetic 10W-30 Motor Oil (ATM) soundly outperformed competitors across a series of ASTM motor oil tests. It and 10 competing conventional and synthetic 10W-30 motor oils were subjected to seven tests. The competing oils included petroleum-based Castro GTX Drive Hard, Mobil Drive Clean, Pennzoil with Purebase, Quaker State Peak Performance and Valvoline, as well as synthetic-based Valvoline Synpower, Quaker State, Castrol Syntec, Pennzoil and Mobil SuperSyn Multi-Vehicle.

Test 1: Thin-Film Oxygen Uptake Test (TFOUT) which measures the oxidation stability of engine oils. Results: AMSOIL 10W-30 demonstrated superior heat and oxidation resistance.

Test 2: High Temperature/High Shear Test (HTHS) which measures a lubricant's viscosity under severe operating conditions.
Results: AMSOIL 10W-30 exhibited superior viscosity stability and did not “shear back” and thin out like other motor oils.

Test 3: NOACK Volatility Test measures the evaporation loss of oils in high temperature service.
Results: AMSOIL 10W-30 resisted high temperature volatilization (evaporation) better than other motor oils to maintain peak fuel efficiency, thus reducing oil consumption and emissions.

Test 4: Pour Point indicates the lowest temperature at which a fluid will flow.
Results: Tests proved AMSOIL 10W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil capable of remaining fluid down to -58° F.

Test 5: Total Base Number (TBN) is the measurement of a lubricant's reserve alkalinity for combating acids.
Results: AMSOIL Synthetic 10W-30 has a very high TBN, allowing it to effectively combat wear-causing contaminants and acids. This provides superior protection and performance over extended drain intervals.

Test 6: Cold Cranking Simulator Test (CCS) measures a lubricant's viscosity at low temperatures and high shear rates.
Results: The low cold crank viscosity of AMSOIL Synthetic 10W-30 reduces drag on moving engine parts and allows engines to achieve critical cranking speed in extremely frigid temperatures.

Test 7: Four-Ball Wear Test measures a lubricant's wear protection properties.
Results: Tests show that AMSOIL 10W-30 Motor Oil has better anti-wear performance than all other oils combined.
